Living Map, a leader in navigation software, approached us with a clear objective: to expand their library of landmark illustrations. Their advanced navigation maps are used in mobile apps and on-site systems to help people plan journeys and find their way around complex environments. The challenge was to create a consistent series of easily recognisable illustrations that would integrate seamlessly into their existing digital maps, making navigation even more intuitive for users.
The process built upon Living Map's established visual style to create a new series of landmark illustrations. The focus was on key areas, particularly in London and Liverpool, ensuring that iconic locations were instantly identifiable within the digital maps. Pendulum meticulously crafted illustrations of famous spots like the Meeting Place statue, the M&S Bank Arena and the Royal Liver Building, making sure each one was clear and consistent with Living Map's existing aesthetic.
Beyond the illustrations, Pendulum also produced a series of Photoshop mockups. These visual demonstrations showed the Living Map system in action across various devices, including mobile phones, laptops and even within shopping centres. This approach not only showcased the system's versatility but also significantly reduced the need for costly and time-consuming on-site photography.
The outcome of the collaboration is an expanded catalogue of high-quality, consistent landmark illustrations that seamlessly integrate into Living Map's navigation products.
